The Most Common Vertigo Causes in Norton Shores, MI

Vertigo Relief, Dizziness Relief, Dizzy, Meniere’s Disease Relief, Disequilibrium, Vertigo, Dizziness, Meniere’s , Meniere’s Disease, endolymphatic hydrops, hydrops, SEH, BPPV, fullness, swollen ear, painful earVertigo, or the false sensation of spinning, can be a symptom of several different conditions.  The way the body maintains its sense of balance is complicated, but it involves the ability of the inner ear to communicate effectively with the brain about how your body is positioned in space.  Any interruption of these signals can lead to these four common causes of vertigo symptoms:

  1. BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) – one of the most common causes of vertigo, BPPV occurs when small calcium crystals break off from the lining of the inner ear and find their way into the ear’s fluid filled canals.
  2. Labyrinthitis – an infection of the portion of the inner ear that aids in balance
  3. Meniere’s disease – severe vertigo episodes are accompanied by ringing in the ear (tinnitus), pressure in the ear, and fluctuating hearing loss.
  4. Vestibular neuritis – the nerve connecting the inner ear to the brain can become inflamed, interfering with signals that tell the brain how the body is positioned.

Correcting the Cause of Vertigo

Regardless of what is causing your vertigo episodes, there is a singular system that sends and receives signals concerning your body’s balance and position.  That is the central nervous system, which is comprised of your brain and spinal cord.  The brainstem acts as a switching station for signals that are travelling from areas of the body and telling your brain how to maintain balance.  The atlas vertebra surrounds the brainstem, normally offering a layer of protection.  However, if the atlas misaligns, which can happen from an accident, injury, or wear and tear, it can distort these signals.  This can lead to the sensation of vertigo, and recurring episodes if the atlas is left uncorrected.

At Zehr Chiropractic in Norton Shores, we use an extremely precise method of analyzing for and correcting atlas misalignments.  The Atlas Orthogonal technique creates an adjustment that is specifically designed for each individual patient, since no two cases are alike.  Once an adjustment is given, the goal is to hold the atlas in normal alignment for as long as possible.  This is what allows for healing and the restoration of proper brain-body communication.  When signals concerning balance are sent and received correctly, that can mean the end of debilitating vertigo episodes for good.
