The aura phase starts just before the head pain hits. Auras come on slowly and last less than an hour. Approximately 1 out of every 4 migraine patients experiences aura. In this phase, one may experience:
The pain phase is the one that most think of in reference to a migraine. The head pain may last for a few hours or a few days. The pain may start out slowly and increase in intensity, ranging from moderate to severe, and one may also have neck pain. Physical exertion often increases the pain.
The postdrome phase is the final phase and can make one feel ill for a while after the head pain subsides. Symptoms include:
